We are back my friends and the best part is this time no more breaks till March! Month after Month of uninterrupted Arsenal games, don’t we just love that? Now we just have to keep on winning to make all these months of watching enjoyable. Just 11 games into the season and we have had to break 3 times for internationals, someone sure needs to fix FIFA and I used to think it was Platini but after his love for sending Wenger into the stands, his lack of ideas on how to deal with racism in football, referees behind the post rather than outright goal line technology and his desire to increase the number of countries in the world cup, I am damm sure it isn’t him.
We didn’t seem to have much worry from this Interlull injury wise, glad especially for our French Legion who returned unhurt. Also very glad they qualified, the desire to play at the world cup especially for a player like Sagna who has Debuchy ahead of him in the French team knows he would need to have an excellent remainder of the season to give the French coach a reason to start him especially since this is most likely his last shot at being at the tournament, Giroud too faces competition from soon to be club mate, Benzema (if you believe the rumour mills).
So, Southampton it is for us then right after our narrow loss at United, certain no bookmaker would have tagged this game a top of the table clash in November but Southampton visits us knowing a win and results going against Liverpool would see them top of the league. Need more motivation than that? Don’t think so, but Arsenal have plans of their own and the Spirit still remains with us even after our last game and you can feel it in the players comments during the Interlull and the return of Theo Walcott seems almost like a fresh signing and is a massive boost for the squad. If Theo reenacts his form from last season we are in for a hell of season from him this term.
Big news from the Managers press conference was definitely the return of Theo and the new dimension he can bring to the team. Lots have been written about Ozil being the biggest beneficiary of Theo’s return as he could do with a fast striker been on the end of his intelligent passes. If the game at Sunderland was anything to go by we are in for something special, sort of like a remake of the Bergkamp-Overmars relationship.
Rosicky needs to pass a late fitness test and Flamini is definitely out after picking his fifth yellow card of the season. The ‘Flamteta’ partnership in front of our defense forces Ramsey to the right which is definitely not his best position and I would love to see Ramsey back in the middle with Arteta and Ozil. The rest of the team picks itself and Giroud is due a goal or two don’t you think?
Swansea was the fairy tale team of last season, this season it seems to be the Saints. Last time they visited us we spanked them 6-1 with Gervinho at the peak of his powers. Want to place a bet we could muster a similar score line again? You would be better of placing your wife and house on the table like the Arsenal Fan who did when we played United.
The Saints under Pochettino have the best defence in England but unlike Spurs they score goals as well. Invites for three of their players to the England setup would definitely boost squad confidence though I think only Lallana has an outside chance of actually making it to Brazil. In midfield, they have Wanyama and Schneiderlin who provide excellent cover for their defence and are a threat when it comes to corner kicks, good thing we have The BFG back for this one. The saints have travelled well beating Liverpool and picking up a valuable point at Old Trafford. It should prove to be a tough encounter but I still fancy Arsenal at home to do the job.
