Arsenal vs Stoke Preview : Good vs Evil

Resident Blogger : SimonSEEZ

This whole preview can be summarized in 3 words . I HATE STOKE!!

But you clicked on this link, burnt a few Megabytes so I feel you deserve more. I hate Stoke, I really do. I can’t find anyone that loves them. Why can’t we all get together and vote them out of the league, isn’t there some clause somewhere that allows that?

Seriously, I hate the way they play football, I hate their stadium, I hate their fans, I hated Tony Pulis with his face cap looking all like an ice cream man in the sun and then just when I think they had learnt something by firing him they go and hire Mark Hughes , another manager I completely detest. How he got another job after the damage he did at QPR beats me. Him and Steve Bruce have a way of showing up at one club or the other. I envy United, I can’t be bothered by Liverpool, I dislike Chelsea, I detest Spurs but I HATE STOKE.

On to heavenly things, like the run we have put up this season, you want to feel better, start from the win at Munich, it’s all over social media so I am sure you would have seen it. The victory at Marseille might not have been the most beautiful way to win a football match but who cares, 3pts away in such a tough group will give this team all the confidence they need to kill Stoke.

On the injury front we found out Mikel Arteta is back to training and that’s awesome news. A lot of people seem to think Flamini should start ahead of him judging by his recent performances, I salute the FlamSter but need I remind you guys who the cog in our wheel last season was? How we struggled to maintain any form of decorum when Mikel wasn’t playing? Need I remind you of his stats? The manager summarizes it all at his presser for the Stoke game.

“He is very influential and he’s a leader – one of the leaders of the team and he’s a technical leader as well.“We are happy to have him back as well because at the moment with the number of injuries we have, we are a bit short and we have plenty of games in front of us, so it’s good news.” – ArseneWenger

Cazorla is out for about a month, that’s a huge huge loss to the side, our best player last season, he had an outstanding game against Spurs. Deployed to the left side of midfield due to injury to Podolski and the arrival of Mesut Ozil, Santi definitely is one of our most influential players and will be missed. I wish him a quick recovery.

The Game

The game seems to be like an opening bout for the bigger clash later in the day , The Manchester Derby. Football games are always easier to watch after your own team has done their business so I’ll take it. Arsenal are in a rich vein of form and we are widely tipped to continue this form against Stoke at home. It would be the home debut for Ozil and you can expect the home fans to give him a rousing welcome.  One of the clichés of our early season preview is ‘THE TEAM PICKS ITSELF’, we have been hard done by injuries and lack of signings.  Ozil slotted into our style like a glove at Sunderland , creating a goal for Giroud and would have had many more had Theo taken his chances.  Theo with his runs should be the biggest beneficiary of Ozils arrival at the club as his intelligence means he would almost always put in that perfectly weighted pass to him.

You can expect a Stoke team to park the bus against us tomorrow and we have to be intelligent to break them down and our midfield of Ozil, Ramsey and Wilshere should have more than enough to deal with that.

Captain Vermaelen is back and I would love to see if the manager would give Koscielny a rest or keep the Captain fresh for The Capital One game. Gibbs is one who is due some form of rest too and Nacho can fill in very well in his place. Going forward we can rely on Giroud and Walcott.

Player to Watch

Aaron Ramsey, totally deserving of every adjective that has been used to describe him in the press.  Ramsey has been very instrumental this season, leading the team from midfield in passes, tackles and goals. He is just an embodiment of everything that Arsene Wenger believes in and hopefully he will continue to put in spectacular performances. He got injured playing against Stoke and I hope he scored a hat trick against them.

Home Win . Arsenal 3 – Stoke 0 (Giroud, Walcott, Ozil )
